Chris Maitland

Head of Lower Key Stage 2

Christopher Maitland brings over twelve years of experience in education, with a strong background in both teaching and leadership. Originally from the UK, Chris has taught across Key Stages 1 and 2 and played a key role in developing both new and established schools in Dubai. His leadership has supported schools in achieving improved KHDA ratings, and he has successfully introduced initiatives such as house systems, student leadership programmes, and well-being frameworks that continue to make a lasting impact.

At GEMS Metropole School – Al Waha, Chris is the Head of Lower Key Stage 2, where he works closely with staff, students, and families to ensure a supportive and engaging learning environment. He is passionate about creating opportunities for children to succeed both academically and personally, with well-being, leadership, and creativity at the heart of his approach. Alongside his leadership role, Chris mentors colleagues, leads professional development, and champions innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

Outside of school, Chris is a keen sports enthusiast. He enjoys football, golf, and chess, and is always looking for new ways to bring the values of teamwork, resilience, and creativity into his work with students.
